• Math Facts for Second Graders

By the end of second grade all second graders should have mastered addition facts with sums from 1 to 18 and the related subtraction facts for these facts.  What does that mean?  Here is an example.  If 7 + 4 = 11 and 4 + 7 = 11, then 11 – 4 = 7 and 11 -7 = 4.

Once a child has a working knowledge of an addition fact, then they should be able to use that knowledge to understand and solve other facts containing the same digits, as well as correctly solve two-digit and three-digit addition and subtraction problems.  Here are some facts your child should be able to correctly compute by the end of second grade.  The sooner your child masters these facts the more success he/she will have with math in second grade and beyond.
