Things to Know About our Class:
Daily Folders
Each day your child will bring home a correspondence folder. In that folder you will find a section for things that can be left ay home when you are finished reading them and a section for things that need your attention before you return them to school. Also in the folder will be a color-coded behavior log so you can see how your child behaved throughout the day and an explanation if your child had more than 1 card turn. You need to initial the behavior sheet, return it to the folder, and return the folder to school each day.
At the beginning of most weeks a parent newsletter which includes; lists of spelling words, sight words, and vocabulary words will be in the Daily Folder.
Additionally, if you ever need to send me a note, you can put it in the Daily Folder and I will see it when I check the folder.
Homework
Homework Folders will be sent home every Monday. The week's assignments will be listed on an assignment inside the folder. A weekly spelling list and other necessary papers will also be inside the folder. Students may complete the assignments in any order, however, I suggest completing them in the order they are assigned.
All homework should be completed and returned on Friday each week. Please complete and sign your child's homework sheet.
Friday Folders
At the end of each week, all of your child’s papers will be sent home in a Friday Folder. Please look over the papers then sign and return the folder at the beginning of the following week. This is a great opportunity to review your child’s progress and notice areas where you can help your child with additional practice or a discussion about effort/ family expectations.
Special Items
Birthdays: You are welcome to send in a treat to celebrate your child’s birthday. Also, children will only be allowed to pass out invitations to parties provided that ALL the boys, girls, or students are invited. Otherwise, I prefer that you mail the invitations so there are not any hurt feelings. Each child’s birth-date will be placed on our Birthday Graph. If you do not want your child’s birth-date placed on our Birthday Graph Bulletin Board please let me know.
Star Student (Student of the Week): A student will be randomly selected each week to be our “Star Student”. He or she will create a special poster about himself/herself, participate in a show-and-tell, and take home a personalized booklet at the end of the week.
Character Counts: Each month we will be learning about a different character trait. Each time a student exhibits these character traits his or her name will go into a special Character Counts bag. At the end of the month a name will be randomly chosen from the bag, and that student will go to a special luncheon provided by ALCAS. Parents of the special student will be notified in advance.
Progress Reports: An informal progress report will be sent home each month, with the exceptions of report card months (November, February, April, and June). Please sign the progress reports and return them to school in the Daily Folder.
